Lips

lipsFor a younger, healthier appearance, lip augmentation can enhance your lips’ natural contour to restore well-defined, plump lips that have lost their fullness from aging, as well as reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth.

We’re all subject to the aging process. Age first appears in our faces. As we age, our once full, plump lips begin to sag and lose their contour and fullness. The Cupid’s bow of our upper lip may begin to thin and flatten out as the color fades. Lip augmentation effectively corrects these problems and restores what aging takes away.

Using the most modern procedures, techniques and instruments, the experts at Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center successfully perform lip augmentation procedures that work. Lip augmentations can also be performed in combination with other facial procedures such as rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation or chin augmentation to ensure the most balanced look and satisfying results possible!

The common lip augmentation procedure involves implants in either liquid or sheet form. There are many different types of fillers you can opt for, depending on your needs and expectations. Newer fillers may last longer or offer greater convenience, as many of them do not require skin testing. Additionally, fat grafts are becoming more popular, as this procedure offers more permanent results. You and Dr. Abramson will determine which type of procedure is right for you.

The options for a lip augmentation procedure include:

  • Restylane, which is a non-surgical option
  • Lip Advancement (lip shortening), which is a surgical option
  • Advanta Lip Implant, which is a surgical option as well

Lip Advancement (Lip Shortening/Lip Lift)

Lip advancement, or lip shortening, is a surgical procedure used to lift and enhance the upper lip, and can also be used to reshape the lower lip. Lip advancement or “lip lift” can be a very satisfying procedure for those with thin lips due to genetics or aging. It can produce a fuller, more well-defined set of lips, permanently!

Advanta Lip Implant

For some patients, Dr. Abramson may recommend Advanta implants as the best treatment option to help you reach your personal goals. There are many benefits to the Advanta lip implant procedure as well, such as:

  • Advanta implants are being used by internationally-recognized cosmetic surgeons with outstanding results.
  • Advanta implants are safe, effective and biocompatible with your body’s tissues.
  • Advanta implants are non-toxic, synthetic implants that have been used for more than 25 years in a wide range of other major medical procedures.
  • Advanta implants are soft and supple for a softer, fuller look.
  • Advanta implants are proven to provide the best results and most satisfactory outcomes.
  • Advanta implants create luscious lips that last!

Lip Procedure Overview

When you undergo a lip advancement procedure at the Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center, you can expect the procedure to go as follows:

  • Your face will be cleaned, and you will be draped.
  • Pre-operative markings will outline the procedure.
  • Your lip tissues will be injected with local anesthetic.
  • Incisions will be made and skin will be excised appropriately.
  • Lifting and/or reshaping will be done.
  • The skin will be sutured back together creating a higher lip.
  • Antibiotic ointment will be applied to your lips.

If you undergo an Advanta lip implant procedure at the Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center, you will be put under local anesthesia. The Advanta procedure is done in-office. Dr. Abramson will make hidden incisions inside or at the corners of your mouth, into which the Advanta tube implants will be placed. The incisions will then be closed.

What to Expect Post Lip Augmentation/Advanta Procedure

After your lip augmentation procedure at the Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center, you can expect to experience some numbness and loss of sensation, along with swelling and bruising. This all diminishes over time. The swelling is usually reduced within 7-10 days, although it may persist as long as a few weeks. Ice packs will help reduce swelling and manage discomfort. You will need to avoid the sun and be on a liquid diet as directed by Dr. Abramson. The numbness may persist for 4-6 weeks, but results vary with each patient. Within a short time, you will be able to enjoy the new shape and symmetry of your lips.

After the Advanta procedure, some patients are able to return to their regular routine right away. If you were sedated, plan to take it easy the rest of the day. Swelling and bruising will last for several days, but then gradually fade. Discomfort is usually minimal, and is easily controlled with oral pain medication if needed.
