Ear Reshaping

ears, otoplastyOtoplasty, also known as corrective ear surgery, is for children and adults alike with ears that are unusually shaped. The ears may be too large, protruding or deformed; Otoplasty with Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center reshapes not only the ear, but the self-image.

Ear Reshaping and Ear Pinning are safe, common procedures to correct ear deformities that were inherited at birth or caused by trauma. The type of procedure used is dictated by the anatomical deformity, such as “lop-ear,” “cup-ear” or an auricle that is larger than desired. Some women need to have an ear lobe repaired that has been torn by an earring. Whatever the cause or correction needed, using the most advanced techniques combined with years of experience, the staff at Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center achieves excellent results!

Ear Surgery Procedure Overview

The procedure for otoplasty with or corrective ear surgery with Abramson Facial Plastic Surgery & Rejuvenation Center, goes as follows:

  • You will be draped, the affected ear area will be thoroughly cleansed with antiseptic solution, and you will be anesthetized.
  • Small incisions will be made in appropriate locations (depending on the correction being done)-- usually in the back of the ear.
  • Excess cartilage will be sculpted or removed to allow repositioning of the ear, if needed. Excess skin may be removed, in some cases.
  • Repositioning and reshaping of the ear will be skillfully done.
  • Sutures will be used to close incisions, and light bandages will be applied.

What to Expect After Ear Surgery

After your otoplasty surgery, you will be up and about in 1-2 days. You may experience minimal discomfort, but you may take oral pain medication to reduce it. Your stitches will be removed within 1-3 weeks, and you should be able to return to work within two weeks. Even though you’ll be up and about, you should limit your activity for the initial two weeks.
