CHEEK AUGMENTATION (Malar augmentation)
To raise everything up and create a fresher - more refined, more youthful appearance.

Some people are born with good cheek bones and don’t experience those age-related changes of “sunken cheeks” or that hollow look in the mid-face as quickly as those without good cheek bones. But – over time we all experience those subtle changes – that loss of facial definition - that makes us look tired and older.

There are various options available for to change your midface or cheek area. During your initial consultaiton we can discuss your area of concern and determine what is right for you. The various options available include:

• Sculptra - great for facial wasting
• Midface Lift - lifts the malar/cheek area.
• Threadlift - newest technique that requires very little downtime.
• Cheek Implants - synthetic material that augments the cheek bone; offers recontouring of the cheek area.

CHEEK IMPLANTS FOR CHEEK AUGMENTATION
Cheek implants can raise those flat, hollow areas, restore balance and good definition and give your face a fresh appearance of youth and vigor. Cheek implant procedure can also be done along with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as chin implant and nose reshaping (rhinoplasty).

PREPARATION FOR CHEEK IMPLANT SURGERY:

• Eat a nutrient rich diet to help you body heal and recover faster
• If you smoke-please refrain for 2 weeks before and several weeks after surgery
• Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen products
• Discuss all medications, vitamins and herbals with your doctor
• Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery
• Be sure you do not have a sunburn the day of surgery
• Do not wear makeup or contact lenses to surgery
• Have someone drive you the day of surgery and plan to stay with you a couple days to help you

CHEEK IMPLANTS (Malar augmentation) SURGERY OVERVIEW:

1. You will be draped and the face will be thoroughly cleaned with antiseptic solution
2. You will be given mild sedation and the treatment areas will be anesthetized
3. Incisions will be made inside the mouth between the upper gums and the cheek
4. A pocket is made in the tissue over the cheekbone – the implant is slipped into place
5. The incisions are closed with sutures – these dissolve over time
6. Cheek implant surgery takes about 1-2 hours and is done in our office surgical suite

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER CHEEK AUGMENTATION:
You may experience some mild to moderate discomfort for usually 1-2 days for which oral pain medication will be given. Swelling and bruising is normal and does go away in a couple weeks. Ice packs should be used to help reduce swelling. Most people are able to return to work within 5-7 days, but you must avoid rigorous activity and contact to the implant area for 4-6 weeks. As the swelling and bruising diminishes – and the supportive tissues in your cheeks form around the implants - you will gradually see the new contour in your face. Over time you won’t be able to distinguish the implants from your own face.
