FRAXEL TREATMENT OVERVIEW
The Fraxel laser produces thousands of tiny deep columns of treatment for your skin. This can be equated to “digital” cameras producing so many “pixels” per a given area to produce the desired results. The Fraxel laser allows Dr. Abramson to treat your areas of concern – much the same as an artist restores a fine painting on canvas – one tiny area at a time – without damaging the surrounding areas. The Fraxel laser is so advanced that it penetrates deep into the dermis – without affecting untargeted surrounding tissues. This is fractional treatment – which targets 20-25% of the skin’s surface at a time. This also allows for much quicker healing – but with results in much shorter time.
Your treatment will take place in Dr. Abramson’s state-of-the-art aesthetic surgical center. After your face is thoroughly cleansed – a topical anesthetic will be applied and left on for about an hour – then it will be wiped off. We will then apply an FDA certified water-soluble tint called OptiGuideBlue. This highlights the contours of the skin and guides Dr. Abramson through your treatment. This is washed off after your treatment is finished.
What to expect after your treatment:
- You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for one to two hours.
- Redness and swelling will vary depending upon your skin and the treatment itself.
- Swelling usually resolves in two to three days.
- Your skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days – this is normal and indicates that your skin is healing deeply.
- You may apply make-up or shave shortly after treatment.
- Some patients are able to return to work and/or routine activities the day of treatment (others require a little more time).
* Be sure to discuss your time frame with Dr. Abramson during your personal consultation.
This is the process of skin repair you can expect:
Bronzing: Your skin will have a bronze appearance for 3 to 14 days – depending upon your level of treatment.
Flaking: Your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as the reorganized skin replaces the dead tissue. This is similar to a minor sunburn – but there is no pain. Using a moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking.
Sunscreen: Use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Use an SPF of at least 30. You should also wear wide brimmed hats for added protection against sun exposure.
Over the following weeks and months, the body will repair the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by Fraxel Laser Treatment. These beneficial changes will continue to improve over the next 2-3 months.
YOUR PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLAN:
Before your treatments begin, you and Dr. Abramson will discuss your areas of concern and tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs and goals. This will ensure the kind of results and outcome you want. Normally and by design 3-5 sessions are required to accomplish optimum results. These sessions are spaced about 2-4 weeks apart based upon your schedule and desired outcome. Also, by design, each Fraxel Laser Treatment targets between 20-25 percent of the skin’s surface. This information is based upon clinical studies, which also taught us the average number of treatments needed and the time frame required for complete success. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 – 3 months.
*Because Fraxel Laser Treatment spares healthy tissue, it is effective on even the most delicate skin areas – such as the neck, chest and hands.
